Apple is currently working on renovating its iconic Fifth Avenue Apple Store in Manhattan, and when finished, the new store will be more than double the size of the original location, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

The store will be expanded from 32,000 square feet to 77,000 square feet, giving Apple more space to work with. The company's plans were shared by Douglas Linde, president of Boston Properties Inc., which owns the General Motors Building where the store is located.

Apple spokesman Nick Leahy said the company anticipates an "incredible" new Fifth Avenue store, "where our customers will enjoy new services and experiences in a much larger space."
While construction is underway, Apple has relocated the store to a nearby empty storefront that formerly housed the FAO Schwarz toy store. Plans to renovate the Fifth Avenue store were first announced in 2015 and are part of a wider set of Apple Store renovations Apple has undertaken.

It is not clear how long it will take Apple to revamp the store, but while work is underway, the temporary FAO Schwarz location will remain open.

It'd be interesting to know how large the other Apple flagship branches are in comparison (eg. Regent Street, Covent Garden, et al.)?

I haven't been there but understand it's all underground, so does this mean they have to dig-out double the space under there to gain the new space?

Get out your salad spinners. How can you make this story negative.
And with that comment, this site officially has more premptive complaints about "negative" comments than actual negative comments.

Congratulations! Your ongoing contributions have been integral to this achievement.

Also, Apple is doomed! We can't forget that.

Think of how many watch bands that will hold on display ;)

I'd assume so. Unless they nix the cube and make it two floors (one above ground).
They could be changing the floor plan and adjusting "employee" and storage space-or even leasing more space from an adjoining area. Nothing like knocking out walls ;)

They should make a staircase to the FAO Schwartz building and turn that into an expansion of the fifth ave store

Regent Street and the other "flagships" I visited felt much larger. Fifth Avenue didn't even feel like the largest NYC location.

More self-conceited opulence. Nowhere does it state 'more square footage, more stock'.

When a Walmart is renovated to a superstore, it adds fruit/vegetable & frozen dairy/meats cases.

So they'll have more availability of the hottest new "magical" product from "down the pipeline" w/ its sold out downtime shrunk, even if only at that store? Uh-huh.

Does anyone know off the top of their head how long renovations usually take?
Each hair had to be stitched into my head - five at a time per week. It was four years before my head of hair looked any way normal. But I do not regret it.
