Ok,
I just downloaded two movies to load onto my touch for a nice long plane ride home. However, I get a weird error that tells me I cannot play the movie on my touch. Specifically, it tells "it (insert movie) could not be copied because it cannot be played on this iPod".I have done some looking about requirements, but best I can tell Apple's FAQ just state you need itunes 7.6, which I have.

I currently am running 1.1.1, hacked. I am thinking that this may be my problem and that I am going to have to upgrade. I would not think that I would have to use 1.1.3.

Has anyone got any ideas or run into this situation?

I'd be willing to bet you need 1.1.3 to watch rentals.

That doesn't make sense that I would have to pay $20 to upgrade just so that I can watch rental movies. Maybe 1.1.2?

You do not have to pay the $20 for the upgrade to rent movies. Apple gives you that. Ha Ha . The Apps and customize, cost you $20

im 100% sure
steve jobs announced it in the macworld 2008 keynote

Thanks,
now I just have to figure out how much information I will loose if I go from hacked to 1.1.3.

Actually, now that I realize it, I am confusing the firmware update with the software update. The sw update is the $20. Firmware is free.

ya, so you shouldn't have to pay for the firmware update, It sounds like you ipod is jailbroken? if not, I'd upgrade the firmware and try again.

I don't know about what it does but if you start watching it you have 24 hours to finish watching it, then it supposedly doesn't work.
