I have used disk utility countless times both for repairing permissions (shout out MJ, just kidding;)) and repairing disk. Perhaps it is something different on the Intel Macs, but I sure don't recall ever having multiple applications and the accounts associated with those applications reset to new. For example, some of the applications I am encountering as new include: Growl, Adium (notably note iChat), and still discovering others. Anyone have some insight on this because I really do not recall this result ever happening before.

What do you mean when you say they reset to new? Are you saying it's the same effect as if you deleted the relevant preference file? Disk Utility (and repairing the drive/permissions) shouldn't be doing this. Has your machine been acting strangely otherwise? Have you renamed any of the system folders? Definitely repair permissions again! :D
