Hi,

Just need some advice please for my elderly mom. Her late 2011 MBP will need some repairs and upgrading to run smoothly again, cost will be app. $ 700. A new one where we live will cost app. $ 2400. Do you think it's worth having the thing fixed and hopefully sqeeze out another 2-3 years or would you just buy a new MPBP.

TIA!

What does your mother use the MBP for? 2400$ sounds like a fully loaded model to me. Could she just do the things she does with a 1200$ MBA or 1400$ 13" MBP?

Does she need a 2,400 MBP, what does she do with the machine?

What repairs what upgrades on which MBP (13 inch or 15 inch)?? What is the computer used for?? Until we know this there is no way of determing which is the better option

Yes, we need to know this... about the only likely upgrades would be a new hard drive/SSD and/or RAM, which can certainly be done yourself on a 2011 for much less than $700. If it is just a matter of the machine running "smoothly" that can sometimes be fixed with simply a reformat and clean OS install.

If the repair requires a screen or logic board replacement, then the value of fixing it might be more questionable.
