My daughter has a 2009 Macbook 11 inch that has a cracked screen, a non-functioning optical drive and she'd like to increase the memory. 1. is that realistic? 2. If so, where should she get it repaired and refurbed?

I'm assuming you're talking about a 2009 13" MacBook as you mentioned an optical drive rather than an 11" MacBook Air. If so, yes you can repair all those components, however it probably wouldn't be worth it at this point. The 2009 computers are taking a dive in value, I'd save that money and put it towards a newer computer.

I assume you mean 13" Macbook. The optical drive would be easy to replace with a new one assuming there is nothing else wrong with the connections, etc. The screen would be more expensive and difficult to replace. Memory is easy to upgrade.

That being said, this could end up being a costly repair. I would go into an Apple store or authorized re seller and see what they quote you for the repairs
