Hi all,
I've got an iPhone 4S, and over time have noticed the quality of the sound coming out of the receiver (i.e. the speaker you hold up to your ear when talking on the phone) has degraded significantly. There is now quite a bit of distortion that is pretty distracting and unpleasant. The phone is out of warranty, so the Genius I talked with just gave me the option of replacing it for $199, or getting the slight discount on a new phone for starting a new contract prematurely. I think I'd rather just fix it or get it fixed if it could be cheaper than that.
Has anyone here replaced the receiver on their phone? I see that the part from directfix is only about $5. I'm very experienced at working on computer hardware, but will admit I'm hesitant to work on something that is so small and precise, as I'm worried that when I put it back together, something will have inadvertently gotten broken or no longer work properly. Is this a manageable fix for someone like me, or is there a trustworthy repair place that won't charge me a huge sum to put in a $5 part? Thanks for any thoughts!
