I dropped my phone (SE 2022) today and badly cracked the back case. There's also a slight scratch on the front. Does Apple repair these, or would I be forced into buying a new phone? When I called them, at first they told me I'd need to buy a new phone. Then they said a repair is possible, but I won't know much it costs till I take it in or mail it in.

Is it repairable? How much would it cost? How long would the repair take? If it was still available, I'd have just bought a new one.

You don't say where you are... in USA, the repair cost of an iPhone SE 3rd gen is "up to" $299 plus local tax. Repair can take up to 5 business days.

Note both of those are "up to" so I'm assuming worst-case scenario. Your repair might be cheaper and/or faster, but that's a question for the store - not MacRumors.

Thanks. I'm in the US. I'm taking it in to the Genius Bar this afternoon. Hopefully they will be able to repair it. The repair price is steep but I have no choice. I'm firing up my old SE 2016 to see I can use that during the repair.

For that price I’d just purchase a new 16e.

Apple replaced the phone for a cost of $299. They said for SE 2022, glass cannot be repaired. I had to drive across town to a different Apple store to pick it up since the local store was out of them. Even the store across town just had one. I'm relieved.

Rear glass, yeah… only the 15 and 16 series I think, it can be replaced independently. I have heard of a “frame swap” where they put your display, main logic board, etc. into a new chassis. Not sure what models that’s an option on, and the rest of the phone has to be pristine anyway.

But, I’m glad you were able to get it swapped out right away! I wasn’t so lucky when I crushed my 12 Pro a couple of weeks ago; none on hand at any local store so they had to ship me one.

Unless you like that small SE display and form size, I would have put that $300 toward a new 16e.
My eyes can't tolerate the any of the new displays. I do like the small size, but my eyes couldn't even tolerate the Minis when they were around. The only all-screen phone I could tolerate was the XR. Even the 11 (though it was LCD) didn't work. Apple really needs to do something to help folks that are experiencing eye strain and headaches. I'd guess most people that have a problem with these displays don't even realize that the discomfort they feel is because of the phone display, because there's so little awareness about temporal dithering. At least some folks understand PWM, but almost no one understands dithering because I think Apple is the only one using it.

I'd be happy to pay a hefty premium for any iPhone with a usable display.
