I'm hoping someone might be able to help me here. I've been reading the threads here about kernel panic, and wondering what I might be able to do. I purchased Mac Pro Intel 8-core (16 GB RAM) in December 2008, but didn't load it up until we returned in January. Had two kernel panics (I only know this because of my log-- I don't actually remember when it first started). I initially thought it might just be some kind of glitch. Never had kernel panic before-- I'm learning about it now.
We were away for most of February, and when we returned in April, I started having them more often. And I even had two occur before the computer was fully loaded up. Thought it was a problem with some of my music software and plug-in's, so I removed them all, and still had the problem. Did a problem log with the people at the music software company and they suggested it may be RAM or something with the hardware.
So this morning we opened up the computer to remove the RAM. We purchased additional 8 sets of 2RAM each- so 16 total, though our system profiler was only showing (as of this morning): Top Riser (A): 1GB, 1GB, 2GB, 2GB and Bottom Riser (B): 2GB, 2GB, 1GB, 1GB. But they should all be 2GB. Four of the 2GB were only showing up as 1GB, though it had shown up correctly back in January (2009) when we installed it (it is Apple-approved RAM).
We removed the RAM from the bays that were only showing 1GB each, and moved the other 8 GB to the correct positions on the risers, but when we loaded up, the profiler only showed 4GB on the B Riser! We added back two of the 2GB RAM we had removed, and it showed 12 (correctly, in the right positions). But when we rebooted the computer (without altering any RAM cards), it showed only 10 RAM (instead of the 12). I'm so confused... I'm not sure now what is going on...
We've also just run the Apple Hardware Test, and it showed 12 GB in place (this is correct for what's in place right now) and no problems were found. I have some 20 Kernel Panic logs, but I don't know how to read them. Can anyone help me solve this problem? (I didn't want to post them all here-- but if posting one or two may help, I'd be happy to).
I would be so grateful for any help.
Thank you,
Ragani
