I have a mid 2007 24" imac, 2.8ghz, 4gb ram, with a 256SSD I installed. It goes well, but looking to upgrade some performance, and whilst there are some 2015 MBPros in the refurb store, thought they might be a nice replacement, all the accessible ports, SD card, usb3 etc, would be a better option than the new 2016Oct ones, which have a price premium on them especially down here in NZ with our exchange rate.
Anyone able to give an honest comparison on what I'll gain performance wise with the MBP? Mainly using Mail, Photos and a small amount of movie editing. Given the size of the HDD, I'll store all media (except Mail) on an external drive, and back that up for obvious reasons.
I'll be gaining a vastly improved processor, 8GB ram (faster speed), and improved SSD, basically are the main obvious ones, as well screen quality - though a noticeable decrease in usable size, which I think I can tolerate by using an external monitor and having the MBP open as well?
Any thoughts appreciated whilst I contemplate this purchase, please.
