I had posted this in the apple forums but didn't give an answer so trying here instead, which is usually better
I know similar questions to this have been asked but I've not quite found the answer.
I have apple music and before I used iTunes (including iTunes match) for well over a decade. I also owned some 200 CDs, which I ripped when iTunes Match came out as well as some older MP3s, which I added. I also have some 100 playlists that I put together.
In any case, I want to get rid of all old copies of files (e.g. MP3s, rips, etc.) so that I can just listen to the Apple Music Lossless files, but, whenever I hear one of my old tracks played from one of my playlist, I get the ripped/MP3 one rather than the apple music one - and this applies to any device I'm using (iPhone, my mac, iPad, etc.). I know because I don't get the lossless icon nor the lyrics.
I have tried deleting all local copies on all devices (but not removing them from the library) to no avail. When I go and play one of those songs from one of my playlists, it just plays the original file (i.e. lossy and without lyrics). I know the song does exist in lossless format in the apple catalogue as, if I look for it separately and play it, it will play in lossless format (and with lyrics).
I read that what is needed is to actually delete them from the library, but that would mean that I would lose all my playlists and would need to rebuild them from scratch, something I'd rather avoid. Any thoughts? Only thing that comes to mid is to use something like Soundiiz to export the playlists to Spotify or some other service, then delete my entire music library and then re-export all these playlists into apple music - but that seems like an epic hassle!
