Hi everyone. The performance on my 2010 iMac is really starting to suffer at this point and I would like to replace it.
Considering I've only got 2010's base 21.5 inch model I think it's done great to serve me well for this long. I use my computer mostly for internet browsing, watching YouTube/films/TV and the odd bit of work and gaming too. No video editing, and occasionally some minor photo editing.
I do have some concerns though so wanted to ask some general questions.
Is the lack of a disc drive a huge issue in the newer models? I do still watch DVDs and listen to CDs on my Mac sometimes - but I was thinking of countering this by buying a Blu-Ray drive and downloading Blu-Ray software to get the best of both worlds.
Regarding iTunes - I know that I could also fix the CD issue by importing everything I have and then moving my library over from a Time Machine but my iTunes library isn't currently organised into 1 folder - is there a way I could do that automatically?
Backups - My current iMac was set-up for me by an education company that helped me with my studies (I have a disability). I'd prefer to start from scratch with a new iMac because some of the security options and software that they installed have caused me some problems over the years - is it a good idea to keep my current Time Machine as a permanent back-up of my current computer? I was thinking of doing this in case I need to refer back to old documents.
Lastly, I rely quite heavily on Microsoft apps on my current iMac (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). How good is the compatibility with Apple's own apps?
Thanks for reading.
