Hi folks,

Recently I noticed my current late 2013 iMac keyboard (old style with removable batteries) has a broken Escape key. Otherwise it works fine. Since it is 6 years old it's probably time to replace it. I am considering getting the current Magic Keyboard but wondering if there are alternatives that may work or look better? I think the Magic Keyboard comes with white or black keys? What about the Logitech MX Keys board? Any with maybe illuminated keys?

Thanks for your suggestions!

Richard

What do you value in a keyboard? What sort of tactile feel? How clicky? Do you need Bluetooth or is wired ok? Do you prefer a numeric keyboard or not?

The Logitech MX Keys does come with illuminated keys. They even have a sensor for your hands. If your hands come close the keys light up. When they leave the keyboard the keys go dark. Unfortunately I have not found a way to permanently turn them off.

Well, I do actually like clicky keys but I am used to my existing iMac keyboard and I pretty much like it. Kind of surprised that only one key would stop working. I definitely need wireless. One of the things I've always liked about my iMac is the simplicity of not having wires everywhere. I think that numerical keypads are useful for the home, end, pg up, pg down keys. Ironically, I don't need the numbers.

Yes, and the illuminated keys are a nice feature here. Not sure I really need that though. I find I want the illuminated keys in very low light situations, like in bed when I'm trying to get stuff done before sleep. If this feature isn't able to toggle on/off I would say that's too bad. But would also explain why the MX Keys needs to charge about once a week as opposed to the Magic Keyboard which is once a month.

Overall, I think I like these two and will come to a decision in a couple days. Thanks!
