Hey
Well my iPhone USB cable has begun to fray at the usb end. I don't even take it off the charger and the wires are showing now. If I take it back along with my iPhone (under warranty) is there any chance they can replace it for me?

yes they will

Do people with questions like this bother to read the warranty or call Apple about these issues, or just assume it will be quicker to ask on a forum?

Depending on how far the Apple store is, wouldn't it be much cheaper to just buy a dock cable? You can find them on Amazon for $5.00. BestBuy also has them, as well as any AT&T store.
