Replace iMac G4 15" LCD with a 17" LCD

Hi!

I had just bought a iMac G4 15" 800MHz model today for $50 (which is probably more than what I should have paid, but I wanted one!) and after I got home I noticed the inch and a half vertical line (which isn't too bad, but it can bother me of trying to watch movies or something). So my question is, could I get the screen and shell of the 17" and mount it to the 15" base and be fine, and OS X would go full res for the 17"?

The counterweight in the dome would be less. That could cause problems unless you swapped the dome's internal metal shell. If the models are the same speed range 700Mhz-800Mhz or 1Ghz 15" and 1.25Ghz 17" it might work. I'm not sure which model the 1Ghz 17" would match with, probably the 1Ghz 15" model.
