I decided to get a wireless router that has a USB port and chose the Linksys WRT610n over the Airport Extreme due to the fact that I can load DD-WRT on the Linksys. It looks like I may have made the wrong choice as the transfer rate to the hard drive attached to the WRT610n is very slow (~2-3MB/s). I had my friend run a test on his TC and he was able to get faster speeds (~8-9MB/s) to the TC's internal drive. I think my WRT is passed the 30 day return period and I was wondering if I should try to sell it elsewhere and pick up an Airport?
My main use for the storage is for Time Machine, but the backups take forever with such slow speeds. I'm also using the storage for media (music, movies) instead of keeping everything on my MBP (transferring to the MBP when necessary).
Another option would be to build a NAS with a spare computer I have, but then I would need to figure out how to connect it to the router (in a different room). I'm thinking I could use an Ethernet to Coax bridge as I can find a set for about $50. What do you all think?
