I'm tied to my macbook pro for everything, work, entertainment, basically I almost not use the phone, only for calls (obvious) and even sometimes I call from my computer, I still using the iphone 5S.

I will buy the new 14 macbook pro.

So I'm thinking, why not buy a watch and macbook pro and that is? possibly I don't need the phone.

Also I want something that helps me with my life, alarms, healthy stats etc. I need something that controlled me in a good way, discipline lol.

Anybody are in the same boat?

Interesting proposition. My only concern is how to block RoboCalls. I've got that covered on my iPhone with RoboKiller app. Would there be a way to block these RoboCalls on the cellular equipped watch. Can an Apple Watch be be firmware updated/managed without the iPhone Apple Watch app?

mmm, I don't answer phone calls that are not in my contacts.

but yes, that's a problem, in my country (not USA) I got some scammers phone calls, they are freaking stupid but works for them because some people believe in them and they stolen money from bank accounts and things like that.

I forget the camera lol, mmm I don't care too much about taking photos but are helpful when I need send something important like me in a store and send a pic to a friend or something like "hey this is the product that you want" you know... but I don't care taking photos of my freaking face and posted in social crap, lol.

You can’t use Apple Watch as your only cellular device. Plus, setting up Apple Watch requires an iPhone. Using Apple Watch to make phone call (however occasional it might be) drains battery FAST.

What you can do is buying iPhone SE so you can still have something resembling a phone without breaking the bank and receiving basic software support when needed.

You don’t need to stress yourself on that one. Just wait and see.

And yes, cellular watch doesn’t mean Apple Watch becomes a standalone product. You need an iPhone that supports the Watch, however cheap it might be.

I love my watch but I would never ever consider doing this myself.
Maybe in a few years could be possible, I even read about some people talking about replacing the phone and macbook for a watch and an ipad (as a computer).

I'm a web developer, so I need and I love my macbook pro, I do almost everything there, I actually hate use the phone but one problem is my health, a lot time setting in the chair.

Is funny how my sister almost not use the macbook pro and only use the phone, even for quick designs, I hate that little screen for design stuff.

I have a cellular watch and often leave the house without the iphone but I would never go full watch only.

Camera
FaceTime
Mail
Safari
Messages (with photos)

All these things are essential parts of comms and while the watch can do some the scope is limited. Also the cellular isnt as powerful as the iphone so often its a bit ropey for calls.

If you mean get rid of your iPhone for the Apple Watch, the only problem is you absolutely HAVE to have the iPhone to set it up.

As many people have said it’s not possible since the Apple Watch is just an iPhone companion and not a standalone device.

What is being said there’s nothing to stop you from leaving your iPhone home. If all you need is to make a few calls and send a few quick text then you’ll be fine. If you actually use your phone like texting quite a bit then no you’ll probably run out of battery. Also have you ever texted on the Apple Watch? Other than saying OMW or some short reply it’s terrible.

yes, texted on the Watch seems a pain, I bet I'll only sent out voice messages.

I mean just try it now. I don’t think I can deal with that but if carrying a phone bothers you then try it. I don’t know how battery life would be. My watch last more than a day but then I don’t use it as a primary device and it’s never running on cellular all day. That’s another thing you need to consider is with the cellular watches they don’t run on cellular unless the iPhone isn’t nearby. This is because battery life is much shorter on cellular. I think this is something you should try and maybe let us know how bad it was or how good it was. I’m not sure many people have done this

I’m try doing the same from 2015 Apple Watch keynote.
I choose an iPhone SE 2016 at D1 because was the last iPhone usable with one hand and an AW 4 cellular in November 2018, for health and to stop the updating iPhones loop (in November 2018 I was just at my 7th SE changed by support and 2nd screen repair ‘cause everyone was defective by design).
First obstacle: operator support for cellular Apple Watch.
Second obstacle: AW battery.
Third obstacle: my AirPods 2 are crap by D1.
Until Apple business cow will be iPhone we can’t do anything like that.
No CarPlay option in iPad.
No Apple Watch option in iPad (or free AW from every companion).
iPhone and iOS are the obstacle of a free choices on Apple platform, everything works only if iPhone is the center of your workflow.

I’m on the same boat. I spend most of my day on a mac. But that’s not the main reason. I just hate social media or any app designed to suck your attention and awareness from life. I have an iPhone Xr and a 6s, and I daily drive the 6s because I don’t have to look at it the whole day. The 6s is nimble, can be used with one hand and delivers anything you need to accomplish 90% of your needs.

I’m getting the next Apple Watch and keeping the 6s until it dies, and then I’ll probably go for a Mini and keep it for another 6 years

I have macbook pro '15 inch 2013, is heavy, for that reason I want the future 14 inch to move around the house, so I bet I'll possible use less the phone.

Possibly I'll buy the watch later to try it.

I use my watch to text long sentences from time to time and have realised that using the dictation feature is far easier than trying to type or draw the letters.

I liked that but stop twin if the dictation was too long and you didn’t stop before that happened then you would just have to delete the whole text and start over again. Also you have to fight with the dictation being correct. It’s rare I don’t have my phone with me so I just pull my phone out. It’s so much easier

Same. I use dictation all the time and with it on the watch it seems to be so much more error prone.
