My superdrive on my 2008 alu iMac has died (Pioneer DVDR-K06A). Apple have quoted me £115 for a replacement, which is the same as an LG external blueray burner (USB2 or eSATA).
I imagine USB2 is fairly slow, does the standard superdrive use eSATA and, if so, could I take it out and run a cable through the slot to the external burner? Also, if I use an external drive via either eSATA or USB can I boot from my OSX disc/ upgrade my OS?
Thanks for any advice!
