Like many here, I have been thoroughly disappointed with the lack of laptop releases for the entire MacBook line. Have had my 2011 MBA (fully spec'd at the time)... but quite limited with 4gb ram, and 256gb ssd.

I have "purchased" a fully spec'd 2017 and 2018 MacBook Pro .... at least "6 times." But, something is just not there for me on that laptop. And I am not willing to join the dongle army. Just apple's silliness is too much for an eye candy looking laptop. (I want to get a MBP... I just want something to justify getting it especially if it is going to be an everyday workhorse / replacement)

So...I purchased a used 2015 MBA / i7 2.2 GHz / 8gb / 512gb ssd today with AppleCare until the Fall. I could not be happier with this. Instead of constantly waiting for apple to get their sh-stuff together !... At least I have a solid every-day portable, great for traveling, great on battery laptop.

What convinced me was reading another article on the forums, which quite correctly stated that the MBA is one of the best designed laptops apple has ever designed. (minus the silver bezel)... but this is a solid design... solid function. There is a reason Apple has had a hard time discontinuing it... and now relegated it to their "value" laptop offering.

They don't really have something on offer that competes on the all around utility of the MBA. So...

I suggest others do the same... get a fully spec'd 2015... it will be practically the same as a 2018 MBA. Jeez Apple... really get your sh*t together !

And with the price i paid... if apple ever releases a retina display or edge to edge display on a MBA... I will be sure to get that as well.

The 2017 MBA is cool too :)

From reading a review of the XPS 13, the retina display is still the big ticket so it would reduce battery life by a third to half by the sounds of it. That's 13 hours to around 7 or 8 hours so it depends which you prefer. I'm for greater battery life end.

yes.
i have the exact machine - same as your specs.
quick. quiet. enough capacity. light.
and, as icing on the cake, the magical apple logo still glows in the upper cover.
no need to upgrade in 2018 (i bought my 2015 MacBook air in 2015).
will continue to love and appreciate this machine until apple launches an iOS new iBook with its own chip in 2019 or 2020 that uses apps.

I'd consider the 2017 MBA if they'd offer an 11" model. Going to hold out to see if the rumoured Air/MB updates happen this year and will probably make a decision off the back of that. If I could find a 2015 11" maxed out in mint condition, I may consider it. Still on a 2011 MBA 11" at the moment.

Well I was hoping to hear, "is noticeably faster! Battery lasts that much longer! Speakers much louder!"

Don't want to rely on the numbers.

I far as I know there is no 2017 MBA. Latest version is the 2015 MBA. Even with that being the case, it continues to be a totally viable product. I am thinking of getting one on sale this summer for my high school age son for this upcoming school year. Great keyboard, array of ports, battery life, and the CPU is more than adequate for most tasks. The Mojave OS coming up also promises to increase the performance of legacy CPUs, so there is a lot of life left in these MBAs!
