I recently replaced the glossy 15" display on my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro with an Anti-Glare display. It displays everything perfectly and is recognised by the OS fine, except that the minimum brightness is very bright. I thought very high brightness was a feature of the glossy display, that is until I installed Windows 7 in Boot Camp today and noticed that I can turn the *hardware* brightness of the display down to a very low level if I want to.
So, I'm wondering if I can tweak Mac OS to allow me to turn the hardware brightness of the display down like I can in Windows 7 in Boot Camp. I am aware of Apps like Black Light and Shades, but that's not what I want as the hardware brightness is still high and using more battery than necessary. If there is terminal command that can reset Mac OS's recognition of my display's brightness range that would be great. Otherwise I'll just have to try doing a complete reinstall.
