I picked up an appropriate IDE laptop optical drive recently (a CD-RW + DVD reader combo drive), as the optical drive that came with my Lombard (the standard CD drive) has issues reading parts of discs.
Having switched the old drive for the new one in the media bay caddy, I noticed something odd.
The new drive works fine in OSX (and the IDE driver in my ARC firmware is also fine with it), but Open Firmware refuses to do anything with the drive.
I looked at the Open Firmware driver but didn't notice anything strange there.
Only thing I can think of is that the new drive takes "too long" to power on, such that the driver in Open Firmware enumerates the drive "too quickly" after powering it on, and thus concludes no drive exists?
