I'm looking to get the 15 in macbook pro (just the base one) but i really want a 500 gb hard drive in it. doing it through apple.com is $200, but i can get the Western Digital Scorpio Blue fir $100 through newegg.com.

before they built in the battery it was rather easy to replace the hard drive, but i was wondering how much more intensive they made it with the new bodies.

Once the new hard drive is put in, then what? What is the process, and how difficult is it, to reinstall the OS and get going as normal?

Use Super Duper to image your hard drive before replacing (I recommend using something like this to mount the new disk via usb 2.) and than just swap the drives out. You could, of course, re-install everything off of the system restore disks after just installing the blank drive (difficulty is based purely on how much already exists on the drive right now) or via time machine. Its up to you.
