I use the iPad for recording orders. Our part numbers are alphanumeric, so it is a PITA to keep switching between the letter and number keyboards on the standard iPad keyboard. Does anyone make a replacement keyboard app with the numbers along the top? Seems like Apple would have made retractable numbers along the top of the standard keybaord or maybe included a button where you hold it down and the numbers appear and then when you release it they disappear.

A bluetooth keyboard will give you numbers and a better feel for touch typing.

As far as I know, it's not possible for a third-party to change the keyboard system-wide. An app can provide it's own (ie. iVNC does) but it only works in that application.

Since apple controls the app store, they do not let apps in that alter functionality.
