Just picked up a 2006 macbook and the computer needs a new battery. Any recommendations on where I should buy one? I don't want to spend a lot of money as this is an older machine. The model I have is the late 2006 13 inch 1.83 ghz model. If it helps, i'm located in Canada.

You want an A1185 battery. You can get them as low as $20, for a knockoff piece of crap, but since it is an antique there's no reason to bother with a good battery as it will outlast the laptop.

I understand its an older model but for my needs with it it'll do just fine.

Really, don't get the cheapo $20 batteries. I got one on eBay and it didn't work at all. The laptop wouldn't recognize it. I ended up getting a refund and got a Rayovac battery from Batteriesplus. It was a little expensive at $99 but it lasts a long time and works well. I can't vouch for the long-term life but it does have a 1 year warranty.

Any advice on where to get an A1280 for a late '08 13" unibody?

We went to the Apple store to get a new A1281 for my wife's 15" MBP, however, they said mine is considered "vintage" so they no longer carry it and suggested to look on Amazon.

EDIT: Found this one on Apple.com- http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB771LL/A/rechargeable-battery-13-inch-macbook-aluminum?fnode=5a

Looks to be the right model as it says A1280 on it. I also found this on Amazon, seems to be the best rated, but still has a lot of negative reviews(then again, so does the official Apple one):

You might try iFixit. They sell aftermarket batteries.

Got myself a battery for a 2008 one - tried 2 cheaper ones which dont worked good at all - get the original or one from a serious store.

I totally agree that aftermarket batteries work like crap. I did not mean to suggest that aftermarket batteries are good.

I am merely mentioning it as an option, as a $100 battery, is worth more than an A1181 Macbook, which is presently an eight year old computer.
