I'm looking to get a replacement power adaptor for my MBP 2013 Retina. I have looked online and there seem to be quite a few non-Apple products that look exactly the same and claim to be fully compatible. Is this the case? Any risks buying non-Apple branded?

There are plenty of risks of using a non-Apple or counterfeit adapter. Many of them have none of the protective circuitry that Apple includes. I'd never use one.

Better buy a new or used Apple adapter. Lots of the adapters simply dont work because they dont do the handshake with the computer correctly. The Apple adapters are coded.

I suggest to first repair your existing adapter.

Maybe not then, but now there are USB C to MagSafe1/2 adapters or cables that you can buy from Amazon or Aliexpress to use with pretty much any USB C power brick that puts out 60W+ (and 20V) of power.

I bought once a cheap Macbook with Magsafe plug where the owner thought that it was broken. I took the risk and found out at home that the third-party charger did not work correctly. Got an old Apple charger and had a "fixed" Macbook for cheap.

Old Magsafe connections are coded. It sounds unlikely that these third-party Magsafe to USB-C adapters solve that problem as they also would have to fake a Magsafe charger. Maybe I am wrong.
