My powerbook just went in for repair under applecare b/c of the display. I've heard that sometimes apple puts lower quality displays on notebooks that need new displays. Is this true?

?

I got my 15.2 " Powerbook screen replaced (the white spot issue Rev. A Alus). My screen is normal, no ultra low VGA resolution or tons of dead pixels...
I don't think, that they do stuff like that. Every customer would send in the Powerbook again, because the screen is ****** up AGAIN.

I think you will get a quality screen, if not bring it back...
