What is the most cost effective way to do this? As long as the replacement drive burns and writes CD/DVD+-, I'm happy camper. I have a fair amount of computer knowledge and have fixed my fair share of hardware, but I am not as savvy when it comes to replacing hardware in a Mac. Finding slim ODDs seems a bit more challenging too.

What is a good drive without breaking the bank? Also, what is a good set of torx screws? Other things I might need to know or need?

Oh, and my AppleCare has long since expired.

Soooo... that's the Mid 2007 model, right?

Unless you're buying the tools to remove the glass and keep it clean underneath, you're probably just better off getting an external Firewire or USB drive.

Yes, mid 2007. I'd rather not do external, though. One less thing to have hooked up.
