Replacing a hard drive and snow leopard

Hi guys,
I'm looking to replace my macbook hard drive from the stock 160GB to 320GB and need some advice. I have a intel core 2 duo macbook running leopard. I'm thinking about upgrading to snow leopard as well. What's the best way to go about doing this? Install the new hard drive, restore from my external hard drive and then install snow leopard? Or install the hard drive, then install snow leopard then restore the drive with my external hard drive? Your advice is appreciated!
