I already tried asking on reddit, so far no one has answered my question. I'm reposting it here:
I've been collecting data into Evernote for about a year and half now. The application is really powerful and I really like that I can toss anything in it. Anyway I switched to nvAlt because Evernote could be really slow at times, especially launching on my iPhone.
Using Evernote web clipper is great but you end up with a lot of cruft. After a while I noticed that more effective for me is to simplify formatting and delete the stuff I don't need. That's when I realized I would probably be more happy with nvAlt.
I installed nvAlt and now I use Dropbox sync - I have simple txt files and inside the sync folder I have another folder called "documents" where I keep all the other files - jpegs, PDFs etc.
I really like how fast nvAlt is and I like the simple interface. But attaching a file is something that nvAlt wasn't designed to have. Too bad because I rely on it. I have bunch of receipts in JPG format. This is easy to fix as I can create a note and use markdown image tag to show it in Preview. I adjusted "template.html" file (it's in Application Support subfolder) so I don't have to type exact path everytime, just "documents/receipt.jpg".
This works well but what about when I want to have note that referes to multiple files such as PDFs, DOCs and ZIP files? I know I can drag the file into note and it creates link. This is great and it's all I need but there is a big BUT.
The link that is created uses absolute path. That becomes a problem when my notes are synced to different computer (that has different username folder). Then the link does not work.
I would really like to replace Evernote with nvAlt as my digital brain but this is one little thing holding me off for now. This seems like a little issue that could be easily fixed (via using relative path like images).
Anyone has any advice?
