I've accepted the fact that Finder will be a part of my every day OS X life for file management, but most of my tasks will be spent in Forklift 2, as TotalFinder just doesn't do enough with Finder to make it good enough (though the Tabs are pretty awesome).

Since most of my activities will involve Firefox, is there some add-on or something available that will allow you to open the downloads folder in an alternative Finder app?

At present, there really is no "replacement" per se, merely apps that do file management better. TotalFinder's integration into Finder is interesting though.. Wish more apps would adapt a similar concept so things can actually open into it rather than having to click into it.
