Hi Folks,

i have a Mid 2010 i7 27" iMac, a Fantastic machine.

unfortunately i did not take it to the recall when it was called for, and my hard drive died on me, which i have replaced with a Toshiba 3TB.

During the process i broke the LCD temp sensor. it worked for about a year with very occasional incidents where the fans went on full speed, installing SMC fan control used to solve it. not anymore.

now the fans run full speed at full time at temperatures as low as 33 degrees Celsius. i didn't notice any change in performance except the fact that you can't hear things that you used to hear like before, and the volume has to be at the upper end for anything to be properly audible.

i was wondering, if i replaced the HDD and optical drive, Both with SSD, will that allow me to disconnect their respective fans? since SSD does not need cooling fans, which will bring my mac to function quietly again. with the exception of the CPU fan, which functions perfectly.

i would appreciate any input, thanks a lot.

let me know if there is any questions. hopefully with your help ill be able to solve it. thank you!
