Replacing HDD in a MBP, need to know height.

What is the height of the HDD in a 2010 MBP15?

Also, does anyone know of a good 1TB HDD to replace my 500GB? I was looking to spend under $100.
Would either of these drives work?

Or should I replace the disk drive with another 500GB.


I want 2 500GB partitions, one each for windows and OSX. Which would be the better way to achieve this.

Samsung is releasing a 2-platter 1TB HDD soon, but there are other options out there.
You could also look into "Optibay" to replace your internal ODD with another HDD.

A 12.5mm drive will fit. I use a 1TB WD Scorpio Blue, it's quiet, fast, and reliable.

I think i will probably stay with a single drive because I like to watch DVDs and burn CDs and having a portable drive could become a nuisance. Im not desperate so I might wait for a bit of a price drop, maybe to 80 bucks or so before i upgrade.

I would recommend the new 1TB Samsung drive. It's the first 2-platter design, so it's 9.5mm and faster. I had the 1TB WD Blue and, to put it lightly, it sucked speed-wise. This one is also $79 if you use the $10 new customer coupon.

Well, you may have to wait for couple years until a 1TB HD drops around $80. But, hey..., you save $20 and this may be worth gold to you.

That was a good choice a while ago. Now there's Samsung Spinpoint M8 it's faster and uses less power.
