replacing individual icons

Okay so I downloaded these really cute animal icons for my computer. I have decided that I want to use them for my individual external hard drives. I have three different external hard drives. I don't want to use something like candybar because there is no way to set each external hard drive to a different icon. It just shows one icon for any hard drive you plug in. I downloaded icon composer and have been saving my icon as a transparent tiff and then throwing them in icon composer...then I go to the get info on the icon, copy it to my other icon, which works but it's not transparent. Any other suggestions?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
