Replacing Intel iMac logic board yourself?

So my late 2007 2.4ghz 20" iMac has a bad logic board (common problem). No AppleCare (I bought it but never activated it, and can't find store receipt, yes i f**ked up)

I was thinking about buying the board myself and replacing it (I saw some youtube vids and it looks fairly simple)

My question is, HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED A 2ND LOGIC BOARD FAILURE?
I don't want to buy a $700 part and have it fail again.

Extra question: Anyone go back to PC after this crap?!
