Since my Late 2009 i7 iMac is dying, I've decided to go ahead and make the upgrade myself to save money.

The current drive in my iMac:
1TB Seagate Barracuda
ST31000528ASQ

The one I want to replace it with is:
2TB Seagate Barracuda XT
ST32000641AS

1. I heard there were some issues with the temperature sensors with different manufacturers. However, I saw online some people having some issues even with the same manufacturer.

2. The XT's width is 4.010in, while the original is 4.000in
(taken from the seagate website)

So has anyone tried using the Barracuda XT and have no issues with the temp sensors/any issues at all?

Thanks

From what I understand, you have to replace with the same manufacturer, and it seems you are.

Try taking a look at ifixit.com's pages. They have guides for installation, and advice on whether the drives they sell will work in your iMac. And their prices are pretty reasonable (I bought the last one I installed in an iMac cuz I used their guide to install it, and figured it was worth an extra few bucks to go with them for the support).
