I dropped my iphone 2 months ago(cracked screen) and finally have enough money to get it replaced. I wanted to do it at Best Buy because of the $15 replacement plan and I'm a reward zone member. Does anyone know if they take your broken phone from you? And will they clear the phone of your personal data or should I do it myself?

What does your broken phone have to do with bestbuy? Nothing, so why would they take it?

i think u misread it like i did the first time, he means replace it at best buy for the regular price for a new iphone, but he is just saying he would like to buy it there so he can get a replacement plan this time instead of having nothing

I don't know. Apple told me back when it broke that they would take the broken phone and give me a brand new one for $300. I thought if Best Buy doesn't need the broken phone I could sell it on eBay for parts.

because apple is giving you a dicount on the phone. Bestbuy will charge you the full price, which could be $700, since you are not signing a new contract.

Will Best Buy even sell him a new phone at any price since he's not signing up for a contract at the time of the phone purchase?

His best bet may be the $300 Apple offer.

I don't think Best Buy could even sell him it for 700... they have no way of verifying he has a legit contract.... the deal is through apple so go through apple

you can only replace it if you have the service plan with your iPhone 3g. I got my service plan with best buy when I got my phone from there. Actually a couple weeks later. It's definitely a good deal, look into it. Could be too late I think only allowed to add the service plan with the first 30 days of purchAse

Bestbuy has their own service plan with the iPhone? Thought everything goes through Apple.

well there are always 2 prices for the iphone, eligable and uneligable, so isntead of 199 he would pay 399, but then atleast the has the chance to get the replacement plan.

Yes best buy has service plans for the iPhone. Everything is covered. Stolen or lost, go to best buy. Get a new one.

They don't cover lost or stolen, or lots of other things.

If they covered lost/stolen, what would stop you from paying the $30 or whatever for the PRP and then coming back three days later and getting another phone with the plan for $30?

You should buy from Apple, then get the squaretrade warranty...it covers everything....I think....but you need to get it within the first 30 days. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I would do this in a heartbeat, but I didn't know about it till it was too late...

Not quite:

If Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) Protection was purchased, the Service Agreement expands to include damage from liquid spills, item drops, or any other accidental damage. ADH coverage begins 30 days after purchase, and does not cover willful damage, negligent use, theft or loss. A $50 deductible applies on ADH-related claims. ADH is not offered on all items.

Still no theft or loss coverage. Also, how, exactly, do they determine if it was willful damage/negligent use when you present them with a broken iPhone? I mean, it's gonna come out looking the same whether you accidentally dropped it or smashed it on the ground just cause you wanted a new one.
