Hello,

Has anyone tries to replace a single key on their keyboard due to obvious reasons?

In my case im wanting to change my spacebar key. Do you know how much if Apple is willing to do ?

Im still under the 12 months warranty.

Just wasnt sure if they will replace just the spacebar key or they will tell me something like the whole top has to be replace etc..

Thank for your time.

AFAIK it depends. If the button underneath still works without a problem, I don't see why you couldn't get a new spacebar installed.

However if the keyboard is faulty, the top-case needs to be replaced, if we are talking a unibody MBP.

I bought a new top-case for my MB Air, due to a soda-pop incident. The keys didn't like that.

Yea it is a unibody.

Well story is i have some marks on the spacebar keys and now the space bar key stands out way too much. i just want to replace it with a standard one.

Any idea where i can do this?

I dont really want to put a sticker on top of the space bar.

I'd love to see more info on this as well as the spacebar in my 3 week old laptop has always slanted a great deal. The right side is at the same height as the other keys, the left side is always nearly fully depressed. I don't notice much when I'm typing but it looks silly.

So i assume the key itself is relatively easy to replace, now where do i find a replacement spacebar key for a unibody 2010?

Thanks

Stop Trolling guys, all i want is some useful info.

Just take it into an Apple store. While it's not "official" policy, the Genius Bar folks will almost always replace broken/lost/damaged keys with new ones if they have the key in stock. And they'll do it for free.

And by "in stock" I mean on a donor keyboard in the back.

Just ask nicely.

Sounds very good. Can i ask if you have experience going at this type of issue, or you are just guessing? no offence.

Thanks

I'm speaking from multiple experiences on everything from a current Macbook Air all the way back to a G3 Pismo.

The Pismo got 6 new keys (the letters had worn out)... it was 7 years old when I brought it in.

Having hard time finding a place that sells a single new black spacebar key.

Apple wont do it they said they dont have keys laying around.... im stuffed.

Have you tried ebay?

No i havent , tho i believe most of the keys arent brand new on ebay?

I also wanted to know if Apple changes your worn keys ? Say after a year of usage ur keys has worn out, and you would like to have it replace etc..

Cheers

They may not be new from ebay but they have them. MacBook Pro Keys

Maybe try calling Apple about the key replacement?
