I have a Time Machine external hard drive that is filling up. I want to replace it with a larger drive, and I know that when I attach the new drive Time Machine will make a new full backup. But can I save the backups from the old drive? Is it just a matter of copying them over to the new drive? Thanks.

You could use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy the old Time Machine backup to the new bigger drive, and then select the new drive in the TM settings and see if it works.
