rMBP, my refurb LG DVD drive is having problems with some DVD's. Usually I just stream but I'm going to replace it - should I consider BD? I don't think so but I thought I'd get some input. Also, anyone have really good luck with an external drive and can recommend? TIA - Jim

I've had good experience with this

However, I got mine for like $25, so the current pricing is a lot higher.

I use it for CD-R, DVD-R, and MDisc. Samsung makes several external BluRay drives, but I've been waiting to purchase one until the 300-1,000 GB BDR archival discs are released, as they will presumably require a different burner than what is currently on the market.

Yeah - I'm liking that Samsung - seems to keep popping up at top. SuperDrive is just too expensive - I could cost justify for BD but not DVD. Thanks.

I've had mixed experiences with the external SuperDrive. I wouldn't recommend it, personally.

I've had very good performance from a Samsung "506" DVD/CD/Bluray burner.

Works with just one USB cable (no "Y" adapter needed), and a good burn every time.
The newer ones now come with M-DISC capabilities as well.

Not the cheapest drive out there.
But... good.
