Every single modern smart phone has an example of exploding/fire, as does any device with a lithium ion battery (including all laptops). It's the nature of lithium ion batteries when compromised.

The problem with the Note 7 was there was some sort of design shorting flaw that meant instead of a few dozen a year (likely in the battery itself, but possibly not, given the second recall), they had 35+ compromised batteries in a month.

Do they? I've heard of knock-off chargers setting alight, but not iPhones.
If it has a battery, it has a chance of exploding. That includes iPhones, iPods, iPads, Macbooks, and even those Airpods now.

But usually that's very rare, isolated to a few defects, and is usually not worth worrying about. The same is most likely with this Samsung phone the article is about and it reeks of clickbait to me.

I can't recall any evidence of an iPhone exploding and, as you made a statement that they do, could you point to some proof?
You "can't recall" because it's so uncommon (for most batteries, not just Apple) that it's not going to get talked about as much, and definitely not as much as the Note 7 incidents lately.
