Is the reported file size of JPG files accurate in Finder? JPGs I create from my photo software seem to be reported as large file sizes when I look at their properties in Finder (and larger than I would have expected for the size of photo based on number of pixels and JPG quality).

Today I have created a photo of 500x500 px which in Finder shows as 658 kB. I am also running Windows 7 under Parallels and Windows reports the same file as being 70 kB, which is pretty much one tenth of the size.

I'm keen to know what the real file size is because I want to put it on a website and keep the file sizes down.

Explanation please!
