I bought an iPhone 15 Pro off eBay and was able to set it up as a new phone and transfer my number from my physical SIM on my old phone to an eSIM on the new phone.
It was only when I tried to add a second SIM the problems started. No other SIM, either physical or eSIM would activate. Whenever I had two lines turned on neither would work but, if I turned off the second line my eSIM would work OK.
Thinking there might be a problem with the eSIM I asked my provider (Vodafone) to swap it for a physical SIM. The SIM turned up on Friday (four months after I bought the phone) and I put it in the phone and it would not activate. I put it in another phone and no problem. I put it back in the iPhone 15 and nothing.
I tried setting the iPhone 15 up as a new phone and transferring the number from my old phone as I did before and nothing.
I took the phone to an iStore yesterday and they told me the phone has been reported as lost or stolen so no SIM will work in it but as I transferred my number before it was reported the number worked, it is only when you try a new SIM it fails - what sort of a stupid system is that?
I thought I was safe as it was not locked to an iCloud account so the previous owner must have entered their password to erase the phone. If I’d known within 30 days I could have got a refund from ebay or PayPal but, because I’ve had the phone 4 months the seller is denying responsibility (he says he is selling on behalf of his brother and they are ex contract phones)
I will try and claim off my credit card but have to wait 14 days, but as it’s been over 4 months I don’t hold out much luck.
I have bought all my iPhones off ebay since my firstb3G and never had a problem before.
I think I’ve just lost a lot of money….

Could it be a case that is had been reported stolen after you transfered the number? These phones have 2 IMEI numbers as well, could it be that they have only blocked one IMEI number (for the physical sim) and the other is working (the E-SIM one).

Did you get any proof of purchase when you bought the phone? Maybe you can contact the cellular provider that they had asking if it has been reported stolen. If you have proof of purchase they might be able to release the IMEI block.

I believe it was reported after I transferred my first number. The eSIM is no longer working. I have the ebay transaction but no idea who the original provider was.
