Hi all, I've just upgraded my 2015 11" MacBook Air ssd and thus I have a spare 128gb ssd and wondered if its possible to re-purpose it as an external ssd ? I have done a little research and can see that this is possible with other ' normal ssd ' using a compatible enclosure. The apple ( Toshiba 12+16 pin ) however, is a bit unique to say the least. Does anyone know of a compatible enclosure or one bit enough to house it with an adapter ?

Kind regards

:)

OWC sells an upgrade kit that includes a compatible external enclosure. They don't list the enclosure separately but you might give them a call and see if it is available. You might find that it isn't very cost effective as the enclosures seem to be about $80 and you can get a Samsung T5 500gb for not much more.

Those ssd drives don't look any more special than nvme drives.

Search amazon for apple ssd external drive enclosures for something cheaper.

Thanks for your reply Glen, really appreciate it. Funny enough I came across these and yes I agree they're very expensive for what they are and wondered whether there was a cheaper alternative.
