Carrier REQ HELP: ATT UDP cust, can you cancel iPhone 1500 text plan?

Me = ATT UDP customer. Looking to save money.
It's $15 for the iPhone 1500 text plan, which really doesn't make sense these days. What happens if you cancel it? What does it affect?
Is it still mandatory?

Cancel it, but you won't be able to get that package back. YOU WILL KEEP THE UNLIMITED DATA.

Or you could just go to Cricket with the same phone and network, more data, and unlimited texts for the same or lower price.
