Hi, I bought an iPhone 5 from bangkok last week. Its made in Korea model. I had checked the serial number, before buying and Apple said, its legal.

So, I bought it. Now Im not able to UPDATE or RESTORE this device for some reasons. It keeps on showing me errors like, cannot connect to update server, bla bla.

I read somewhere in the Apple forums,

What this article does not address is the possiblity that the phone was hacked to unlock it. If that's the case, it will be completely unable to activate until and unless it is legitimately unlocked by the carrier it was originally locked to.

How true is that statement ?

If true, how do we fix this now ?

Is there a way, I can contact the Telecom company directly and ask them to unlock it for me ?
