Hey folks. Could anybody post via istat pro how much the cpu takes up when:

Having itunes running
Watching Flash HD video on Youtube
Having Firefox and or Safari running.

Also how much is the Fans running when watching youtube in HD 720/1080p. :)

with safari running and browsing my cpu was like 95% idle it would spike up real quick when loading up a page with rich media content such as revision 3 but goes right back down.

Handles 1080p video on youtube no problem with my old alienware i would usually have to wait for it to load i click right to 1080 and it begins playing.
i forgot to notice what the usage was but it wasnt much

Idle temp is about 40degrees C when loading a page jumps to 45
Playing 1080p youtube it went to around 53-56

playing TF2-was up around 80 and above. (same for SC2.)

did not notice anything with itunes i usually leave it open in background and maybe affected idle temps by a degree or two usage was same thing.

Unfortunately i am at work right now but will test more tonight.

Ok now im home let me give you some exact detail (all of this is from the istat pro widget and not messing with fan controls. For the MBP in my sig.

Safari only open (1 Tab)
Cpu usage 0-1% on this page typing this
tem is 38 degrees celsius

Safari (2 tabs)
1 is this page other is a youtube vid 720p
usage 9-12%
temp is 44 degrees celsius

Safari (2 Tabs)
Youtube vid 1080p vid
usage 15-19%
Temp 54 degrees

Safari (3 Tabs)
2 different tabs playing 1080p videos
usage 25-30%
temp 60-65 degrees

Safari and Itunes (itunes opens in 1 hop)
1 tab this page 1 tab playing 1080p video
itunes is in music library
usage20%
temp 60 (cooling down these tests are bign done simultaneous giving a few mins to measure a stable read)

Safari an itunes just browsing 0-2% usage
temp is 50 and cooling

Safari + itunes
Quick open 10 tabs and loading random pages
usage went from 25% to 4% (once done loading)
Temp 50

(so far not an ounce of lag during the tests or loading pages.)

Safari, Itunes, App store, Ical, Address Book, Iphoto, Word, Excel, Steam
(all open and running)
spiked as each app opened but is hover around 3%
temp 48 degree

well i cant think of what else to try any requests just ask. :) glad to help! i will try and do some gaming this week and get FPS captures but all the gaming will be in osx i do not use bootcamp and have no desire to i have a windows machine for that.

I was playing TF2 last night on native resolution with minimal lag the temp was around 80-85 when i finished after over an hour of play.

I still believe there is a problem with the algorithm used to spin up the fans at certain voltages / heat on the 13" 2011 version.

I downloaded SMCFanControl so that I could script the fan to stay @ 2000 RPM for normal activities and kick it up to 4000+ for gaming and encoding. My CPU, after thermal paste reapplication, is between 38 - 41 C for most normal browsing / iTunes activity.

When gaming, at 2000 RPM, it's around 88 C. When I turn up the fan, it drops down closer to 80 C.

zombiezakk, could u run sc2 for me (4v4) in low settings and tell me what you get?

just played a quick game to test settings were Medium (everything set to recommended. Resolution was 1152x 720 I was not able to get a FPS or cpu usage as i do not know of a program to measure this while playing SC2. The temp immediately on exit was about 80 degrees it was at 82 but cooled quick. (those are in celsius)

When the match first started the comp got hot!!!!!!! right above the backlit keyboard setting key it was very hot to the touch while on a desk.

However cooled down a bit as the game went on so i assume the fans really help keep it cool.

One note is that from the main menu the fans were on noticeably but you cant really hear over the game.

Overall: Very snappy responsive looked good very playable and no lag. I did a quick 4v4 with all insane opponents and allies so the game would go quick and even in battles it played good. :D i have been out of the game for 5 mins or so and the comp is already back down to idle temp of 42 and is dropping.

Note: i am at a desk so this will help cooling.

if anyone knows a program to monitor usage while in the game or FPS in SC2 let me know and i will record.

That's odd, when I play games, the fans always start spinning a lot faster almost rightaway...
But even so, 88° is still an acceptable temperature under heavy load...

Yes, before I wrote the script to limit the fan speeds, it would fire up almost instantly on load / gaming.

ok so FPS on medium were not great but you dont notice it when playing

1152x720 resolution
medium settings

temp on exit 82

minimum FPS while in own base 25
Max 40

Minimum while scrolling 18
MAx 30
(quick scrolling i mean)

Battles Min 23
Max 36
Avg was around 27 fluctuated a lot

Spot jumps stayed around 35 fps

Hm... I see, so it wouldnt be good to play in medium I guess.
As long as I dont get below 24 in large battles I would be happy, but I guess medium is still too much for the 13...

honestly it was not bad to play in there was not really lag i could easily play in medium but its all preference and you can always tweak different settings to turn up what is really important.
