Can I set up my friends Macbook Pro to require anyone using her laptop to type in a password if the screensaver has come up? Or to just use the guest account I setup?

Yes. Have a look at the 'Security' pane in System Preferences. I think it might have been in the screen saver pane in OS 10.3 and earlier, but I could be wrong.
Open System Preferences > Click Security > Check the box that says "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver"
