Hello guys I hope you can help me on this.

I currently have a 15inch MBP 2011. It died on me last year during the exam period, from radeongate ( haha) and at the time I've decided to fix it using the flat repair.

Fast forward to the present and I'm thinking of buying a new laptop as I got tired of carrying the 15inch around and the battery life.

However I cannot really justify the performance increase I will get. My uses are BBEdit open 24/7 , pycharm ( I'm doing web development) light pixelmator, a lot of tabs open in 2-3 browserd, a lot of Netflix and occasionally an ubuntu /WIn VM on virtual box and light office for school work.

My current laptop has a 256 crucial ssd and 8gb ram.

Im undecidable between the Air and 13 inch MBP. How much performance increase I'm getting ?

Also in case Apple comes with something really wow like retina air , I'm thinking of selling and getting it. Which of the two ( air and mbp ) has higher resale value?

My initial plan was to wait until summer for the new ones but I guess I need something now for the new semester. ( there is always the risk my current one will die from radeongate again anyway)

Thanks
