Yes, here I am working on a COM 220 research project!

If you have two minutes to spare, please take the survey to help me out with this project!

Dan's Survey

Thanks :D

Took the survey. I have a Ph.D. in Communication. I found the wording to be complex and somewhat unclear and confusing. Also, shouldn't you include a question asking people whether they actually have children (and possibly kids' ages and genders)? Parents answers that are based on actual experience might be quite different from non parents' hypothetical answers.

I was going to take the survey, but when I stareted reading the questions I decided that you probably wanted answers from people who actually were parents.

Ok... Some people have said this, but others seem to know exactly what the wording means.

Uh oh, looks like someone is going to need to make a new survey and start over. ;)

No, it really isn't too important. It's only a 200 level class.

I took your survey :) Although maybe I shouldn't of... was this for parents only?

No, it's OK. I wanted to see what people would do, even if they didn't have children.

I decided to take it. I didn't really have a problem with the wording of the questions.
So what is your project about?

The survey is to see whether advertisements to children push gender stereotypes or are a response to them. It's part of a larger paper on ethics and child advertising.

Dan,

FWIW I would have a couple questions differently if the question hadn't been made specific to toys but the same product categories as question 1.

Example: I routinely buy my boys Dora the Explorer videos and books even though their target is clearly at girls, 'cause a) they actually enjoy the show and b) I want to cram as much Spanish into them as I can.

That said I wouldn't buy them a Barbie even if they specifically requested it.

That's a good idea. I actually thought about doing that, but then the survey would exceed the maximum number of questions.
