Research tries to plant new heart cells

Cardiologists in Boston are using stem cells in an attempt to sprout new blood vessels deep inside patients' hearts, placing the researchers at the vanguard of scientists around the world who are harnessing patients' own bodies to fix their ailing hearts.

They are using stem cells from the patient.

stem cells from the patient, better than getting it from a fetus i suppose. i wonder how long until this will really work and become norm.

Very interesting. I can't see anything wrong with using stem cells from the patients themselves; it's like taking healthy tissue from your thigh to heal burn marks on a persons face.

Medicine is going to get very interesting very soon, I feel.

At least with using stem cells from the patient's own body it prevents the problem of rejection. The side effects from using anti rejection medications is also a problem.

This also prevents the religious issues with stem cells from a fetus.

Embryonic stem cells have shown greater acchievements then adult stem cells, but yes not the political fighting...


Since Bush basically 'banned' the stem cell (embryonic) organizations they have moved to other countries...


I hope this goes well... but still I must think, where would be now if Bush didn't step in.


I hope the heart procedure works, a great cure for those with this aliment.
