just called Apple NYC Soho again...last week they said they'd hold the phone till 7pm, today they said they will hold my phone till 9pm (close of business).
The employee sounded extremely confident that the phone will be there, and that I had nothing to worry about...I could stroll in at 8pm and I would be guaranteed a phone. I am a little hesitant that they could still give my phone away if I am not there early enough, but I do believe that absolute mayhem would ensue should they give away a good number of reservations before 9pm tomorrow. I want to say that Apple will have it very well monitored this year, keeping reservations and walk-in devices tracked and kept apart.
